CANADIAN LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY OF THE YEAR
A technology that has advanced the opportunities for lighting to contribute to safer, more sustainable and more intelligent communities.
REcipient: Welland Downtown BIA & The CIty of Welland
Welland Main Street Bridge lighting design with dynamic, multichannel LED luminaires that are easily and remotely controlled with pre-programmed and real-time scene settings. The bridge is also interactive, answering questions about Welland when texted. The placemaking initiative increased local businesses by 10%.
CANADIAN OUTDOOR LIGHTING PROJECT OF THE YEAR
A public and/or private outdoor lighting project that demonstrated exceptional environmental, economic and/or social benefits through creative design and implementation/procurement.
REcipient: City of Hamilton
Mountain Brow Boulevard solar pathway lighting with a wireless control system. One of the largest municipal off-grid lighting installations in Canada, it is also provides a custom lit environment based on occupancy use.
CANADIAN LIGHTSAVER OF THE YEAR
An individual who demonstrated exceptional leadership to advance the implementation of innovative lighting solutions through project and/or policy impact.

Jeffrey Barten is the Energy and Asset Service Manager of Local Authority Services (LAS). Jeff was instrumental in developing the successful LAS LED streetlighting program that provides a turn-key solution for municipalities looking to make the switch. Since its launch in March 2013, this program has facilitated 150+ municipalities to convert and upgrade their streetlight networks
